Week One Update

Things have been going really well since we've been home. We took Isaac to the pediatrician the day after we got home from the hospital for a check up and weigh in. He was already back up to his birth weight (6lb 5oz) after 5 days! The doctor said that most newborns need 2 weeks to gain their weight back like that. So he put me on a little different of a feeding schedule and wanted to see Isaac back on Saturday for another weight in to make sure he's not losing weight or anything from the new schedule. Saturday rolls around, we take him in to get checked and he certainly didn't lose weight... he's up to 6lb 9oz. The pediatrician was super impressed with his health and has zero concerns for him which was really nice to hear.

Isaac sleeps like a rock during the day, and we have to wake him up to keep his feedings on schedule. However, he gets a little fussy at night. He doesn't really ever cry, but he just grunts and makes lots of noise. When he feeds at night, he tends to fall asleep while feeding so he doesn't eat as much as he should so he wakes up every 2 hours or less to feed again. It gets a little bit tiresome for mom and dad... that's for sure. He did a little better last night.

As for me? I've lost 21 pounds already! The weight loss has plateaued over the last 2 days but I can't really complain I guess. I still have some weight I want to lose but I can't do much about that until I can move around freely again. I go back to see my doctor on Friday for him to check my incision and let me know what I can and can't do now. Hopefully I'll be able to drive again... and bending over would be nice. It's just what comes of a c-section.

I noticed when I was burping Isaac yesterday that he's starting to try to lift his head! He lifted it right out of my hand and turned it a little. I know that this doesn't seem like that big of a deal but he just seems so small and young to be able to do that already! Luke and I are uber impressed.

Long story short... We LOVE our little man. He's perfect and we just can't get enough of him. I didn't know that it was possible for a baby to get cuter everytime you see him, but this little guy does. They say that babies don't usually smile for a month or so, but Isaac definitely busts out a smile on a pretty regular basis.
