The First Spaghetti Night is Always a Coming of Age Story

Beginning of dinner...

Another one of my favorite benchmarks in a baby's life is his/her first spaghetti dinner. If you're a neat freak and hate messes then this is not a memory for you. However, I LOVE IT! It was Ava's third day on solid table foods and I thought it was time for spaghetti. Isaac's first spaghetti dinner, I did real spaghetti noodles cut up into small pieces. They were impossible for him to pick up and were even harder for him to chew. So, this time around, I went with macaroni noodles instead. They were perfect. Easy to grasp, pick up and shove into her mouth while still getting an overly adequate amount of sauce on her face... and chest, belly, hands, arms, elbows, nose, forehead, legs and in (yes, IN) her diaper.

...during...

Ava, I can already tell, is not going to be as worried about messes as her brother. Isaac can't get through a meal without a napkin. He can't get messy outside and go without washing his hands. He's like his Dad was at that age. Ava made this spaghetti night awesome and, not wanting the fun to end, ate two helpings of spaghetti! Almost as much as her brother ate! Yes, surprisingly, she ate more than she got on herself.

"What?"
