A Year and a Half Later...

I started a painting of Isaac about a year and a half ago. I got most of it done, but stopped due to some reason that I can't remember. Probably a multitude of reasons: no time, got sick, distracted, laziness... who really knows.

So, I finally got back to it yesterday and finished it up the best I could. Really, I don't think a painting is every truly done. There are always things that I see that can be changed, fixed, improved, etc... but I force myself to stop to avoid screwing up the painting from too much fiddling.

Isaac was on the carousel at Faust park when I snapped a really cute picture of him. It was an interesting angle, he had a great expression of wonder and I just loved the image so I thought I would paint it.

My skills have definitely gotten stale since college, but it's true: If you don't use it, you lose it. Once I find my rhythm I can get it back and be fine, but it's just frustrating when I know what I'm capable of but can't seem to put paint to canvas in a way that I want. So, here's the final result.

So glad you were able to get back to it. I love the expression, and it's definitely a recognizable portrait of Isaac. The posterized-like style works well with the subject matter, too. Nice job.
