Potty Trained? Check.

Isaac has been potty trained with #1's for a while now. Since he was about 2 1/2 actually with a few accidents here or there. Getting him to do #2's in the potty was rough and took a while. I know they say it's always harder with boys... they aren't kidding (whoever "they" are). Once Isaac turned 3, I was determined for him to start using the potty for #2's. I already have another kid that poops her diaper, I don't need two doing it anymore. He was scared and I didn't know why - he never really gave a reason. No problem, I can work with that.

We had tried everything: "trying it out" for practice, songs, relaxation techniques, holding his hand, leaving him alone, reading books, bribery... everything. Nothing was working.

Finally one day I lost my patience with it. He knew when he had to go and would ask for or take a Pull-Up to put on to go. I was done with it. I took the Pull-ups away and hid them. He knew that pooping in his cotton underwear was a BIG no-no, so he held it. We had a slight clash of wills.

I know they say that forcing a kid to go on the potty is a big problem and you shouldn't do it. I understand this, however, some kids need a bit more of a nudge. Isaac gets in his habits and they're hard for him to break.

After putting him on the potty after every time he started jumping around, holding his butt, he finally went - this was try #6 or #7 I think after two or three hours of this. It was an afternoon event. Once he let it go and went, it was like the flood gates were opened! (Minus one accident the next day - breaking habits is hard but he did very well) This was about 2 weeks ago. Something like that? Now, he uses the toilet every time and it's awesome. I couldn't be more proud.

He's also been waking up dry from overnights and nap times for the last few weeks too, so I convinced him to go to bed wearing his cottons instead of a Pull-up. He was very resistant to this - fearful of wetting the bed of course, but when he woke up dry this morning (which I knew would happen) he was SO INCREDIBLY proud of himself... we'll be in cottons from now on.

I'm officially dubbing Isaac... Potty Trained!
