Two Birds - One Stone

Both kids were due for their well check visits around the same time so luckily my pediatrician let me bring them together. Ava was due for her 4 month and Isaac for his 3 year. They both did great and I was extremely impressed with Isaac's patience and ability to go with the flow.

Isaac needed to have a hearing and vision test. The hearing test was not what I was expecting at all. The nurse came in and had to put a little bud in his ear. I didn't know how Isaac would do with that since he's not a fan of things that are unpleasant, but he just let her do it and sat quietly as she monitored the results - which were fine. She switched ears and he was still as cool as a cucumber. I was impressed... one proud mama.

Isaac measures in at 32 lbs. 4 oz. (59%) and 3' 2 1/2" tall (67%) with a BMI of 26%.

Ava was fine as well with the exception of eczema. I thought it was just dry skin patches, but as it continued to get worse even with the liberal use of lotion, I figured I'd talk to the doctor about it. I had a hunch but didn't want to jump to conclusions if that's not what it was. So now I have to turn her into my own personal grease-monkey with the use of Vaseline a few times a day to keep the patches very well moisturized. I really don't like the idea of using petroleum on her, so I'm going to research other natural options. I tried coconut oil already and that was powerless.

Ava measures in at 13 lbs. 8 oz. (28%), 24" long (21%) and with a 16" head circumference (41%).

One thing that has drastically changed since Isaac was a baby is that now, parents are encouraged to give the baby all the foods that the family eats. No exceptions. This includes peanuts, eggs, milk, wheat and soy. All of which were strictly forbidden when Isaac was that age. The change is apparently due to other countries that DON'T freak out over the allergy thing and give their kids whatever, whenever have a lower percentage of kids with drastic allergies.

Whatever. I'll do it - it makes my life way easier! The doctor said once a Ava can handle the main fruits and veggies, I should start pureeing what I make for dinner and feed her that (before she hits 7 months!). This will make things easier as well as cheaper - too bad 3 years ago I I would have been punched in the face by my pediatrician for such behavior! Now, I can't just give her a glass of milk with dinner, but I can give her yogurts and use milk in cooking without it being an issue.
