I try to keep snacks a little more interesting too. Sure, anyone can hand their kids a couple of cookies and send them on their way, but I try to keep them fun and nutritious (of course we have those cookie and fruit snack snack days too when I'm low on energy and ideas). I don't like to give him food while he's playing, but he's not always a fan of taking a break from what he's doing to eat a little something. So, this week's theme is sushi. Of course it's not real sushi...
Yesterday's was cream cheese and strawberry jam on whole grain bread. I just rolled it up, sliced it and served it with some peanut butter "wasabi" and he LOVED it!

I think today's will be a peanut butter and banana sushi. I need to get to the grocery store to get a few more things for a couple different varieties, but really, the possibilities are endless...
Start with a piece of rolled out bread or a tortilla. Use some kind of spread in it (cream cheese, hummus, dill dip, peanut or almond butter, etc.). Add some corresponding fruit or veggies. Roll it up, slice it and serve. It's fast, it's good and it's a kid pleaser. This way, I can also monitor his sugar intake, veggie intake, etc. I'd say this beats a couple of cookies or fruit snacks any day.
