We're Drowning in a Sea of Wrapping Paper

Christmas this year was a lot of fun. It was different to have a 3 month old rather than a one year old when celebrating a first Christmas. Isaac was a little more "with it" but Ava didn't know a present from a hole in the ground. Either way, it's fun to share such a great holiday with the kids. Now we just have to go through all the old toys to weed out and thin out... because it looks like we live in a toy store or should be on Hoarders.

Isaac has been building up to Christmas all month. We've done Advent every day so he got a new lesson each day as to what the season is truly about. I can't wait until Ava is older so she can get in on the action.

Poor Isaac was sick the week leading up to Christmas. He had a cold with a sore throat and hacking cough. After I thought it was clearing up, he started complaining about his "head hurting" and holding his ear. So Christmas Eve Eve, we found ourselves at the pediatrician being handed a prescription for antibiotics for his ear infection. Unfortunately, this meant we had to miss 2 of the 3 days of family fun over the weekend. By the end of the weekend, we were grateful for those two evening "stuck" at home spending time as a family.

Christmas morning, Isaac was up before 6, no surprise there. However, he was just on his normal routine. He came out to the living room, asked for his warm milk and snuggled down on the couch. It was a good 15 minutes before he even noticed that there was something sticking out of his stocking. As soon as he noticed that, things were spread out all over the floor... Pez dispensers, notebooks, race cars... good times. Ava was asleep.

You'd think that he'd be ripping into the gifts as soon as the stockings were over but no. He was so enthralled with a couple of the cars he got that he didn't even mention the presents under the tree until a good hour later. I was super surprised since he'd been bugging me to open presents ALL WEEK! I'm not complaining though, he's just so grateful for what he'd already gotten that he wasn't really looking for more, which is fantastic!

After opening gifts as a family (we had to wake Ava up to dive in), we packed up and headed to Luke's parents' house for a delicious breakfast and more presents. Isaac LOVES going to his Mimi and Poppi's house so he was excited to show them one of his new cars that he'd gotten. Ava was still asleep.

We brought Isaac and Ava back home after a fun morning of food and gifts at Mimi and Poppi's so he could get a nap before heading down to South County to Luke's grandparents' house to see the whole family... and yes, eat more and open more gifts. I'd be lying if I told you Isaac was thrilled to take a nap. He went down a little fussy and only slept for about 45 minutes, but who can blame him? He was in a good mood though so it was all good.

Luke's Grandparents' house is always fun. Good people, good food, good times. We ate, we opened and there was even a few rounds of knockout in the backyard since the weather was so nice. It's literally impossible to get through a Sinak get-together without some kind of competition. It livens things up, I love it!

It was a long day for us as well as the kids. A good day... just tiring. So we headed back home early evening so Isaac would have more time to play with his gifts before bed. He gladly went to sleep when it was time though. He was exhausted.

So after he went to bed, I baked his birthday cakes and we streamered his bedroom door so he'd wake up to a birthday surprise.

All in all, it was a great day. I love Christmas.
