So, a couple of weekends ago Beth and I went to Babies 'R' Us and did the whole registry thing. And while we had a blast, it was definitely an eye opener. Who knew there were so many accessories needed for this little guy/girl?? I mean, I'm pretty intuitive, and I knew there were tons of things that we needed, but I guess I wasn't quite aware of the magnitude of this whole thing. It was a bit overwhelming, but still in a really good way.
The first isle we came to was cool..you know, we scanned a few things, chatted a bit, looked at the checklist, scanned a few more things. It's all good. Then I turned around.........it was a wall FULL of various breast feeding accoutrements. I mean, this wall was HUGE. This thing was a varitable cornucopia of pads and pumps and everything else under the sun. The isle might as well have read "Isle 2: All the boob accessories any pregnant lady could ever need..even to survive a nuclear holocaust". So, we finally got our bearings and figured this stuff out. I wanted to pick the pump set up that looked like a ghostbusters backpack, but I think we went with another model. CRAZY stuff man....
So, off we went to bigger and better, everything from strollers to carseats, binkies to bibs...we really hooked this kid up :) I had fun shopping for a stroller that I can take with me when I go running. I wanted this thing to be a racing machine...an aerodynamic running rocket where my little one could relax with his or her shades on while I run like crazy. I made sure to find the one with the swivell wheel on the front so that I could easily steer. I didn't want to make a hard cut and turn my kid into one of those trebuches that the greeks used to hurl burning fire balls over the walls of their enemies. It's not funny, but the thought of me launching our child made me pick the phatest ride for our kid. This thing is pimpin....it's got MP3 player hookups, surround sound for the baby and for me, brakes, racing tires, and a sleek wind and rain guard for when I'm running during hurricane season. Hey, that's how I roll.....
After two hours of scanning, discussing, and me making jokes and questionable gestures about breast pumps, we finally got everything done. In all seriousness...it was a great experience, and we actually had fun doing it. I think that's the way to do that kind of thing. Forget getting all stressed about the massive quantities of STUFF...just have a good time and make something fun out of it. So, off to the next thing...painting the baby's room, and getting the house ready for the big day. (4 and a half months)
